JANE HEATON

Why me?

There’s a story waiting to be told

I’ve always loved words and stories. I remember listening to endless bedtime stories as a child and copying out chunks of prose for the pleasure to seeing the inky words flow across the page.

After ‘A’ Levels and unsure how to earn a living, I opted for business studies and something called ‘marketing’. Looking back, I now see that I was always a writer. My first job was in PR for a small advertising agency; I was taken on with no experience because I could already write and was, apparently, curious and happy to talk with people.

Other marketing roles followed, including in regional newspaper publishing and for brands such as Shell and Cable & Wireless. Then, after two encounters with redundancy, I went freelance and increasingly worked with individual professionals and people running very small businesses.

One day someone said they liked my writing style and asked if I could teach them to write ‘like that’. After thinking about it, I decided I probably could. My marketing and communications work grew to encompass writing workshops and one-to-one coaching.

Today, I bring everything together to help those who want to enhance their own skills and understand how best to get their work and their story out into the world, especially those who write or want to write.

Jane has really helped me to clarify my way forward and to let go of some of the things that were holding me back. She is completely non-judgemental and allowing in her coaching, and simply holds me in my train of thought, asking timely questions which can completely change my way of looking at things. She is a very calm and reassuring presence, totally professional, and gives a very safe space in which to work things out.
